Youth Performance Award to Be Named After Jahmir Scott at 2019 Kelsey Awards
Earlier this year, The Kelsey Theatre community lost Jahmir “Hero” Scott, a young artist who called The Kelsey Theatre home for many years. To honor him, his dedication, and his artistry, The 2019 Kelsey Awards will present The Jahmir “Hero” Scott Award for Outstanding Youth Performance. This award will be given to the Outstanding Young Artist of the current Kelsey Theatre season at The 2019 Kelsey Awards ceremony on Saturday, August 17th at 7pm.
"Hero" Jahmir Scott was born April 27, 1996. As a young boy he loved climbing, being a superhero and performing. His love of acting continued through his time in Allentown schools, where he performed in many different shows including Beauty and the Beast, Curtains, and Children of Eden.
As a performer at The Kelsey Theatre, he performed in 13: The Musical, Aida, The King and I, and Bugsy Malone, among others.
As a senior at Allentown High School he found a new passion, cheerleading. He was a member of Allentown HS cheer, Syracuse University cheer, The Baltimore Ravens cheerleading team, and University of Kentucky cheer. He worked at various cheer training programs in both New Jersey and Kentucky.
In addition to the re-naming of the award, Jahmir will also be honored with a special performance by his closest Kelsey Theatre friends and castmates. More details on this performance will be announced soon.
The 2019 Kelsey Awards, hosted by Kyrus Keenan Westcott and Haley Schmalbach, will take place in a live ceremony from The Kelsey Theatre on Saturday, August 17. Tickets for the ceremony are on sale now and can be purchased at TheKelseyAwards.com.
